A Bowlers Journal Magazine's "Top 100 Coach" since 2006, Bill has taught professionally since 1980, is a Gold Level USBC Coach (one of the first 20), and also has served on the Gold Level Review Committee since 2001. He was a Head Teaching Pro for Professional Bowling Camps for 10 years from 1980-1990 and taught at Bowling This Month's Super School in 1997. He wrote “Bill Spigner's Pro's Corner” for the Chicago Bowler for 6 years from 1985-1990; “Bill Spigner's Pro's Corner” instructional articles for Bowling Digest magazine for 22 years from 1983-2004, and “The Pro Approach” for Bowlers Journal magazine since May, 2008. Since 2003 he has been the coach of the Vernon Hills High School Boy's Bowling Team and every year since 2003 individuals or the entire team has qualified for the IHSA State Tournament including the team finishing in 2nd place in 2011 and 3rd place in 2006 in only it's third year of competition. Bill has worked with many PBA and PWBA touring professional bowlers including Kim Adler; PBA Hall-of-Famer's Mark Williams, Johnny Petraglia and Dave Soutar; 10-time PBA Champion Steve Neff and PBA Champion Dennis Lane; bowling legend Carmen Salvino; and PBA Champion, Chris Loschetter. Bill also helped coach the Indiana University Boy's Bowling Team when his older son Robby was a student there and the University of Illinois Boy's Bowling Team when his youngest son Jimmy was a student there. Bill utilizes video-taping and form analysis software in all his lessons and all lessons are tailored to the bowler's level of expertise, whether they are a beginner or very advanced player. Adult (age 19 or older) private lessons cost $80 per hour, or a pre-paid lesson package of 4 – 45 minute or 3 hour lessons for $210. Youth (age 18 and younger) and seniors (age 62 and older) private lessons cost $70 per hour, or a pre-paid lesson package of 4 – 45 minute or 3 hour lessons for $180. Pre-paid lesson packages also include a CD or e-mail of videos shot during lessons. Bowling game fees are not included in the lesson cost – games cost $2 for each game bowled before, during, or after a lesson. Bill also offers ball fitting, grip analysis, and equipment recommendations for an additional fee. Newly added to Bill's lesson options is the Monday Tune-Up. Held on the 2nd & 4th Mondays of the month from 6:30-7:30pm, the Monday Tune-Up is limited to 8 people and pre-registration is required. Cost is $20 a person and includes bowling game fees. Special practice rates afterwards for Monday Tune-Up attendees are available. As with his private lessons, the Monday Tune-Up is tailored to each attendee's level of expertise. Added in 2013 is Bill’s Junior Gold Lane Play Tune-Up held on 4 successive Tuesdays – June 18, June 25, July 2, and July 9 – from 6:30-8:30pm. The Junior Gold Lane Play Tune-Up is limited to 12 youth bowlers and costs $120 which includes bowling game fees. Designed to help youth bowlers prepare for the North Pointe Junior Gold Championships, Bill will teach how to play the different oil patterns, spare shooting and equipment selection. Bill gives his lessons at Brunswick Zone Hawthorn, 316 Center Drive, Vernon Hills, IL by appointment only, but arrangements can be made if you are interested in having Bill come to your home bowling center for instructions whether it's for lessons for a group of people, private party, or corporate event.
